    • Life Transitions
    • Grief

About: Allison’s approach is warm, collaborative, client-centered, and grounded in connection with a bit of humor along the way. She believes that effective therapy starts with trust and she works to create a space where clients feel safe, seen, and supported. Allison will follow a client’s lead when it comes to goals for therapy and she will always be honest with clients – offering ideas, reflections, and gentle challenges – as they work together. Allison welcomes and affirms people of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences – including all races, cultures, bodies, sexual orientations, gender identities, and relationship structures. Everyone deserves a space where they feel respected and understood.

Therapy: Allison draws from a variety of therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioral, neuro-experiential, and systemic frameworks. She has extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and informally incorporates DBT skills, including mindfulness, into therapy when it can be helpful. Allison specializes in trauma work, using approaches like Brainspotting and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help people process and heal deeply held pain. Each client’s therapeutic process is different and Allison supports each client in a way that fits their unique story and goals.

Allison pays close attention to how the mind and body work together because what we feel emotionally often shows up physically, too. Trauma can live in the body long after the events have passed. Our nervous systems carry stories from our experiences, even when we cannot put them into words. This is why Allison incorporates body awareness into therapy. Whether clients are navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, life changes, or just trying to feel more like themselves again, Allison helps clients tune into their bodies’ signals and reactions.

In Memory Of:

Kimberly "Kim" Schultz, MSW, LICSW

Kimberly Schultz, MSW, LICSW

In June 2025, Kim passed away after a short but hard fought battle with cancer.

Kim was passionately dedicated to her work as a social worker and therapist, especially dedicated to trauma-informed practice, including EMDR, Brainspotting, TF-CBT, Anchored Relational Therapy (formerly AIR Network), and IFS. Throughout her career she worked with people throughout the lifespan. She had a deep respect for each client’s cultural background and world view and had a meaningful way of making clients feel extremely cared for in their work together. Kim was an amazing and supportive supervisor to interns and pre-licensed social workers throughout her career, at Mindful Way Counseling and prior workplaces.

Kim spent a large portion of her career in the non-profit world in a mix of case management, crisis stabilization in-home therapy, and school-based therapy. It was in the crisis stabilization in-home therapy program that she made a connection with a colleague that would, several years later, help her make the move to private practice at Mindful Way Counseling, where she continued to make a great impact on all of her clients and colleagues alike for over 4 years.

Kim was both passionate and steadfast in her desire to keep working,  right up until the very end, stating clearly – to all – that it gave her life great meaning to be in the healing space with others.

Kim was a cherished member of Mindful Way Counseling, and every team she was ever on. She cared deeply for her clients, colleagues, and her many supervisees over the years. Kim made connections with everyone she met. If she was connected to you, she cared about you and appreciated you, authentically.

This is a poem that Kim once shared, and it represents Kims spirit and wisdom that she often brought to the world. In honor of Kim, we share it with you:

“The kindest people
are not born that way,
they are made.

They are the ones
who have dug themselves
out of the dark,
who have fought to turn
every loss into a lesson.

The kindest people
don’t just exist
they choose to soften
where circumstance
has tried to harden them,
they choose to believe
in goodness
because they have seen
firsthand why compassion
is so necessary.

They have seen firsthand
why tenderness is so
important in this world.”
